The COVID-19 pandemic, the growing popularity of work from home and family entertainment, coupled with the sudden rise in the value of cryptocurrencies, have caused the longest shortage and rise in graphics card prices in history. However, as all these factors gradually return to normal, prices for video cards are reduced to acceptable levels.
According to 3DCenter, the shortage of discrete graphics cards and the accompanying jump in their prices are behind us. At the beginning of this year , retail prices for video cards of current lines began to decrease , and now prices have almost reached the recommended values. And some models can even be found on sale at a price below the recommended one.
Some graphics cards, defined as the “core portfolio”, are still more expensive. These include the Radeon RX 6700/6800/6800XT and the GeForce RTX 3060Ti/3070/3080. Without these models, the average cost would already be below the recommended retail price for AMD devices and only slightly above the recommended retail price for NVIDIA solutions.
Overall, the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series is sold at an average price that is only 2% above the recommended level. And some recently released models, such as the Radeon RX 6750XT, are already available at the suggested retail price, although it hasn’t even been a month since they were released. And the Radeon RX 6500XT model costs 19% less than its recommended price. Except for the RX 6800XT, 6800 and 6700 models, the average retail price would be 3.2% below the suggested retail price. Average prices for NVIDIA RTX 30 graphics cards are about 6% higher than recommended, and in the case of the RTX 3070 and 3060 models, you have to overpay about 12%. Excluding the RTX 3080 10GB, RTX 3070, and RTX 3060 Ti versions, actual retail prices would be only 2% higher than recommended.
