It’s been almost two years since Qualcomm lost its crown as the leader in the mobile chipset market to MediaTek. During this time, the latter consolidated its success by launching the hit Dimensity 8000/8100 chips and even the flagship Dimensity 9000, which for the first time in many years managed to impose direct competition on the top Snapdragon. In an attempt to maintain its position, Qualcomm resorted to an aggressive pricing strategy, dropping prices on aging Snapdragon 8-series chips, resulting in the emergence of frankly inexpensive smartphones based on them (for example, iQOO Neo 5s ). But according to Digital Chat Station, even they are out of business because of the Dimensity 8000.
Moreover, the demand for the fresh Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 also suffered from them, which companies are also in no hurry to massively introduce into their middle and sub-flagships. And, according to the informant, next year Qualcomm may resort to a similar strategy: the recently introduced top-end Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will become the lot of the middle price segment at the beginning of next year.
