Since the beginning of spring, a rumor has been circulating on the Web that Apple intends to increase the stratification between the basic iPhone 14 and their Pro versions by using different chipsets: last year’s A15 and A16, respectively. A new confirmation of this was a recent report by Trendforce researchers, which at the same time clarifies some important points of the division. Firstly, the increase in RAM from 4 to 6 GB is again mentioned in the case of the basic iPhone 14 and 14 Max, which will level them with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max (albeit on the old LPDDR4X standard versus LPDDR5 for “firmware”).

Secondly, it is assumed that the younger iPhone 14 will receive a more powerful version of the A15 from the iPhone 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max with a 5-core GPU (recall, the base iPhone 13 and 13 mini run on a stripped down version of the A15 with a 4-core GPU). Considering the above, the question arises – which of the options will Apple prefer: to reduce prices for basic models, or vice versa – to increase the markup of firmware, which will positively affect profits. And, as winter rumors say, the company is leaning towards the second option.
