Sony has shared up-to-date data on sales of its consoles and several games from internal studios with GamesIndustry.biz .
The last time Sony shared the numbers was in a recent financial report on May 10th – as of March 31st, total PS5 sales worldwide amounted to 19.3 million. That is, in two months, Sony shipped about 1 million more PS5 consoles to the market.
As well-known insider and analyst Daniel Ahmad notes, it took the PS5 a little over a year and a half 18 months (568 days) to achieve this result – the console was released in November 2020. While the PS5 is lagging behind the PS4 , the previous model crossed the $20M milestone in 15 months (471 days). This despite the fact that the PS5 took the bar of 10 million faster than the PS4 . However, supply disruptions prevented the PS5 from retaining its lead and title as Sony’s fastest-selling console.
Sony said in its statement today that it is planning on a significant ramp-up in PS5 production this year
But it will continue to remain behind PS4 when launch aligned through March 2023. It won’t be until after April 2023, according to Sony’s projections, that it surpasses PS4pic.twitter.com/N42K0sGDBj

At the same time, Sony is confident that it will be able to significantly increase the production of PS5 during 2022 and give a smile to those who want to buy the console. In a recent report, Sony noted that it plans to sell at least 18 million PS5s by March 2023. In other words, in a year, Sony plans to almost double the circulation. Well, let’s wish Sony the best of luck and see if they can finally achieve their goal.
