The refusal of the largest companies to supply smartphones and other gadgets to Russia led to the fact that gray deliveries from neighboring countries, referred to as “parallel imports”, were put into action. It turned out that some Samsung smartphones imported into the country in this way simply cannot be activated: the devices require the installation of a SIM card of the country for which the device was originally intended. And not just to install, but also to use for some time, making calls. This is reported by the publication “Izvestia” with reference to sources from retail. It is worth noting that this approach is not new for Samsung: the company’s press service noted that such a policy has existed for many years at the global level.
The Samsung technical support service said that you can unlock the device by visiting any of the official service centers of the company, but the procedure will cost 5,000 rubles and take two weeks – this is how long it takes to consider the application and transfer the special regional unlock code to the service staff. It is reported that a similar problem occurs on 20% of Samsung smartphones imported by “parallel imports” and does not affect devices from Kazakhstan. In May alone, about 45-50 thousand Samsung devices entered Russia in this way, and you can meet a “problem” device in any salon of large retail chains.
