Sony withdrew the PlayStation from Russia back in March, which was an unpleasant surprise for all platform players. But those who bought the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (without a drive for physical media) felt this limitation the most. Since then, the owners have found several ways around the ban, but do not forget to call Sony to account. And here is one of these appeals was crowned with success. The Petushinsky District Court of the Vladimir Region satisfied the claim against Sony Electronics JSC and ordered the company to replace the PS5 Digital with a standard PlayStation 5 within a week. If this does not happen, the company will have to pay 500 rubles for each day of delay (that is, 15,000 rubles per month ).
The Sony side argued that it was the wrong defendant (the decision was made by Sony’s head office, not the Russian subsidiary), and also complained about the impossibility of replacing the product (obviously due to global shortages and the official cessation of supplies to Russia). The court accepted the arguments of the plaintiff, according to which the disabling of the PlayStation Store actually makes the console without a drive useless, without the ability to use it for its intended purpose, which violates the legislation of the Russian Federation on consumer protection. Sony did not comment on this decision. Well, the precedent has been set, as they say.
