The second quarter of 2022 is coming to an end, which means it’s time to sum up the intermediate results of the smartphone market. This time, Counterpoint Research researchers announced the top ten most popular smartphones in the global market in April. Despite all the efforts of Samsung and Chinese tech giants, Apple remains the undisputed leader. The base iPhone 13 became the absolute bestseller, almost twice ahead of the iPhone 13 Pro Max in second place and three times ahead of the rest of the top participants.
Diving into the numbers, it is easy to see that Apple smartphones took 5 out of 10 positions in the ranking, while the rest are shared by Samsung (four devices) and Xiaomi (one device). Curiously, the iPhone SE 2022 was a great success, performing especially well in Japan, where the device topped the sales charts in April, capturing as much as 18% of the market share.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra performed well, surpassing the traditional Galaxy A-series in terms of sales, entering the top five. It is impossible not to mention the Galaxy A13, which traditionally repeats the success of last year’s Galaxy A12 and its predecessors. Not too far behind is the ultra-budget Galaxy A03 Core, which has become the best-selling smartphone at a wholesale price of less than $100.

But in the case of Xiaomi, the situation is not too optimistic: compared to April 2021, sales fell by 25%, and the company managed to take only 10th place with the budget Redmi Note 11. By the way, it accounted for as much as 11% of Xiaomi’s total sales. It is difficult to predict how the situation will develop further, but we are already seeing that Chinese users often prefer to choose iPhone: top 10 most popular smartphones in China .
