After a general assessment of the situation on the Ukrainian labor market, grc.ua analysts published a separate report on the IT industry, where, as you know, the highest salaries are. According to their assessment, the war quite tangibly hit the industry, which last year brought the country 4% of GDP – for example, the number of vacancies for IT specialists is 4.8 times lower than the pre-war level.
The impact of war on IT
grc.ua experts identify several factors that led to the reduction of the IT industry:
- the fact that IT -specialists work not only in core companies (IT-specialists who worked at enterprises in other sectors of the economy often also fell under staff cuts and wage cuts);
- product IT companies that worked for the domestic Ukrainian market lost projects with the start of the war due to the financial insolvency of the companies to continue development and implementation;
- IT companies that worked with foreign markets faced distrust and doubts from foreign customers that Ukrainian IT specialists could meet deadlines and quality standards in the conditions of shelling and work on bomb shelters.
As of June, job offers for IT specialists account for 12.5% of all relevant ones on the grc.ua website. In percentage terms, this is almost as much as it was at the end of 2021 and even a little more than in January 2022. However, despite the high share of IT vacancies in the overall structure as a percentage, their number in physical terms decreased as a result of the crisis.
