Xiaomi has introduced a new smartphone Mi 12S Ultra. In addition to the characteristics typical for a flagship, the novelty received a large sensor of the main camera. An inch sensor can be called gigantic, given its use in a smartphone. Unlike a Sony smartphone with an inch sensor, the Xiaomi device uses the entire surface of the sensor.
Approximately one third of the rear panel of the smartphone is occupied by the camera unit, which is made in the form of a traditional camera lens. It houses a 50-megapixel main module, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module and a 48-megapixel telephoto module with 5x optical zoom (and 120x digital zoom). The phone is also set to be the first Android device capable of shooting in Dolby Vision HDR.
Other characteristics of the Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra smartphone also look impressive. It is equipped with a 6.73-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of internal flash memory. The device has protection against water and dust according to the IP68 standard, a battery with a capacity of 4860 mAh, supports fast wired charging with a power of 67 W.
The Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra smartphone will initially be sold in China for $900 for the 8/256 GB memory configuration and about $1,050 for the top 12/512 GB memory configuration.
In addition to Mi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi also introduced two younger models: 12S and 12S Pro. They got the main camera modules with more compact 1 / 1.28 inch sensors (which is still larger than many other smartphones). Both devices are based on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. The Xiaomi Mi 12S has a smaller 6.28-inch 120Hz display and costs around $600. The Xiaomi 12S Pro version has a 6.73-inch 120Hz OLED display just like the Ultra and is priced around $700.
