Earlier this week, Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi 12S flagship trio, with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra as the protagonist ( all the details ). It is he who is called upon to unlock the potential of cooperation with Leica thanks to the Sony IMX989 sensor created jointly with Sony and optics modified by Leica. The sensor itself is very curious: its size is 1″ at f / 1.9 aperture. Sony itself has such a size in the Xperia Pro-I model, as well as the “Japanese” Sharp Aquos R7. But here’s what really surprises. One of the few R7 users drew attention to the fact that CPU-Z in the description of his smartphone points to the same Sony IMX989 sensor, in connection with which he had a question: what about the exclusive joint development of Sony and Xiaomi?
At this point, there is no answer to this interesting question. Usually, Xiaomi executives respond to such bewilderment of their fans (for example, you can recall the case when Xiaomi spoke about its superiority in using Qualcomm’s flagship chip, although competitors showed an analog earlier). Perhaps the company has a logical explanation for the intricacies of its marketing campaign in support of Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Be that as it may, real pictures will judge. We are waiting for the opportunity to test the flagship Leica camera.
