With only a few hours left before the premiere of Nothing Phone (1), the firmware of the device leaked onto the Web, revealing many interesting details about the device that would almost certainly have remained secret even after the announcement. Enthusiast @Za_Raczke, who studied it, said that the device has the code name Spacewar and is based on Android 12 with the NothingOS (1) shell. Given the underlying Snapdragon 778G+, the device will be compatible with Android 14 and prior, meaning at least two years of software support can be expected.
Now about the cameras: the main unit includes a pair of 50-megapixel sensors: IMX766 as the main one and Samsung JN1 as the width (judging by the mention of the macro mode, it can have autofocus). The front camera is implemented on a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor, which has been widely used in BBK smartphones (OPPO, Realme, OnePlus) since OnePlus 7. The AMOLED display (model rm692e5) was manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer Visionox. It supports 120Hz and HDR10+ content display.
Camera Interface
The firmware also includes a game mode, inside which many references to Chinese applications were found, and also mentions of mBack, Meizu’s gesture functions, were found in the code. The camera application takes up as much as 400 MB of memory and resembles a customized third-party application, inside which there were many configs for other Chinese brands. Having managed to launch the camera app itself, the enthusiast took several screenshots of its interface, noting its similarity with OnePlus and Xiaomi. The firmware includes a showcase demo app and even a built-in video that also found many traces of the OnePlus 7T inside.
Mass mentions of OnePlus
The smartphone itself is assembled and probably partially programmed at the factory of the Chinese ODM manufacturer BYD Electronic. In other words, the software of the smartphone is definitely not completely unique and, as you can see from the text above, it largely uses the achievements of other brands. We will find out how it will turn out in practice only after receiving the device in our hands, but for now we are waiting for the evening presentation, which starts at 18:00 (Moscow time).
