The new Magic Leap 2 mixed reality headset will be unveiled on September 30th. The device is expected to be lighter and more compact than the first generation model, and will also have a wider field of view. At the same time, the novelty will become significantly more expensive – from $3299. Compared to the first version of Magic Leap, released in 2018, the price has increased by $1,000.
Magic Leap has already begun distributing the Magic Leap 2 headset to a limited number of partners, including neurotech company SyncThink and other healthcare companies. In September, the device will be available for purchase to everyone in several markets, including the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The release in Japan and Singapore is scheduled for the end of 2022.
The Magic Leap 2 headset comes in three configurations, mainly differing in software support and purpose. The $3299 Base edition includes the headset and limited warranty. The $4,099 Developer Pro option adds software development tools and access to early software releases, but is limited to in-house development and not full commercial deployment. The $4,999 Enterprise Package includes quarterly software updates and tools to manage your organization’s headset deployment.
All delivery options include a Magic Leap 2 headset, a computer connection and power interface, and a simple remote control. The new version weighs 260g versus 316g of the previous model. The field of view is extended up to 70 degrees. The company is positioning this device for use in the corporate segment, not consumer.
