Western tech media have been frustrated with Intel’s approach to launching Arc Alchemist GPUs. The new discrete architecture was not only shelved, but made exclusive to one country. Nevertheless, the media found a way out of this situation, although it took longer. Some resources teamed up and jointly bought an Intel Arc A380 graphics card to save on shipping from China. They also imposed an embargo on their own reviews, which was finally lifted.
ComputerBase: “It’s like living in a minefield and playing drunk”
ComputerBase reviewers weren’t thrilled with the Intel ARC A380 graphics card. And although they say that the novelty is “by no means a complete failure,” it still suffers from a number of problems.
First, the new graphics card cannot deliver the same level of performance as AMD’s slowest Radeon RX 6400 model and the comparable-priced 3-year-old NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650. However, performance is not the only issue. The driver itself is a “construction site” with a number of problems of its own. There are also questions about stability – the gameplay suffers from graphics problems and often requires a reboot.
Igor’sLAB: “NOT APPROVED”
The resource Igor’sLAB generally draws the same conclusions as ComputerBase. It is noted that the Intel ARC A380 graphics card simply cannot be used without the ReBAR function activated. The design of the GUNNIR card demonstrates the obvious cost savings and excessive energy demand. The card looks hastily assembled, it has too thick thermal pads and too much thermal paste.
The video card turned out to be so bad that Igor’sLAB awarded it the “NOT APPROVED” label. This is the second time the site has given such an “award” to a tested device.
No mining support
Additionally, it is reported that the Intel ARC A380 graphics card does not yet work with any mining software. So for miners, discrete Intel graphics cards are not yet of interest.
In general, the new Intel Arc A380 graphics card looks like a trial product with unfinished software, which is being tested in one of the markets. He looks obviously raw.
“In its current state, it is completely incomprehensible how such a large and reputable company as Intel can sell such a product even to one buyer,” says ComputerBase’s Wolfgang Andermaer.
