Dell has decided to no longer use the Mobile Connect app. Soon, users will lose the ability to download and use it.
The Dell Mobile Connect app (sometimes referred to as Alienware Mobile Connect) was introduced in 2018. It is designed to synchronize text messages, calls and notifications on a smartphone with a computer. The program is compatible with both iPhone and Android smartphones, but originally offered more features for Android. For example, screen mirroring only came to the Mobile Connect app for iPhone in 2020.
Dell now says that the Mobile Connect app will be unavailable for download for users in the US, Canada, and Japan from November 30th and will only be able to use the already installed software until January 31st, 2023. Users from other countries were even less fortunate. The app will become unavailable for download on July 31st and unavailable for use on November 30th.
For those who continue to need to transfer notifications and calls from their smartphone to their PC, you can use the Microsoft Phone Link app (formerly known as Your Phone). It offers almost the same features and works on Windows 10 and 11. The only problem is that it only supports Android and cannot work with iPhone.
It is also hoped that Mobile Connect capabilities will not disappear completely, but will appear in a different form. In 2021, Intel bought Screenovate, which built the software platform behind Dell Mobile Connect. At CES 2022, Intel already showed off its plans to sync PCs with Android, iPhones, and smartwatches. This feature is expected to be available on Intel Evo devices by the end of this year.
