With Jodie Whittaker, the current Doctor Who incarnation of the Doctor, set to leave the project by the end of 2022, it was recently announced that Sex Education star Shuti Gatwa will be the newest in the role. Gatwa will be the 14th actor to play the Doctor since the series first started in 1963.
The Doctor is a time-traveling extraterrestrial being with the ability to regenerate into a new body when severely injured, allowing many actors to portray the character over time.
Shuti Gatwa will be the first black actor to play the Doctor. In addition, Neil Patrick Harris stated that Gatwa’s Doctor will be gay for the first time. According to Harris, who also joined the cast for the next season of Doctor Who, the new Doctor will be sexier and tougher than before.

“I got to meet and chat with him a bit and he’s great. He will be the first gay Doctor to be a very cool, sexier Doctor,” said Neil Patrick Harris.
So far, the authors of the series have not confirmed this information. Recall that Shuti Gatwa has already played the role of a gay in the TV series “Sex Education”.
