In recent months, Microsoft has begun running more ads in the Outlook Mobile app for iOS and Android.
The Outlook mobile app gives users two options for organizing their mailboxes: a single mailbox with all content, or a tabbed mailbox divided into two categories – Focused for important mail and Other for all other mail. Previously, Microsoft only advertised on the Other tab for users of the free version of the service. But now the company is adding ads to unified mailbox mode as well. This change has been rolling out over the past few months.
Whichever mailbox mode users choose, ads will appear either at the top of the Other tab or at the top of a regular mailbox.
The ads appear at the top of your inbox and look like real emails, similar to how Microsoft and Google display ads in the web versions of Outlook and Gmail. The user can swipe the screen to remove the ad, but it will reappear shortly. When opened, the ad content will be displayed in the app’s browser.

Now, the only way to avoid ads in Outlook Mobile is to pay for a Microsoft 365 subscription. Users of the app have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the increase in ads by leaving comments on Twitter, Reddit and the App Store.
