A few years ago, Apple introduced a fork of iOS aimed at iPad tablets. In fact, iPadOS is the same iOS, but more tailored for large screens. However, big changes are coming in the near future. Apple recently released the first beta version of iPadOS 16.1, which is strange, because iPadOS 16 should see the light of day in its final incarnation only in the fall. TechCrunch received comments from the Cupertino-based company, who emphasized that this was not an accident. So, given that iPadOS is a separate platform with features developed for tablets, this year the OS will go on its own development and release schedule. In the fall, the company will provide a “free upgrade” immediately to 16.1, stepping over 16.0.
At the same time, the message says that the release will take place after iOS 16. Probably, in this way Apple hints at a special event for the new iPad, which, according to rumors, will take place in October. iOS 16 will arrive along with the iPhone 14 quartet: according to unconfirmed information, this will happen on September 7th.
