After initially ridiculing Apple for removing the charger from the iPhone 12, many companies soon did the same. Now, two years later, the most adamant brands are giving up. During yesterday’s launch of the Reno 8 line in Europe, OPPO Vice President Billy Zhang announced the transition to a new strategy. It will consist in the fact that next year some OPPO smartphones will lose complete adapters. This can be a big problem for buyers, because the proprietary VOOC charging technology used in OPPO smartphones requires the use of branded chargers – third-party chargers will charge smartphones much more slowly.
The top manager stressed that the company “has a plan”: “it’s not easy for customers to get access to SuperVOOC chargers,” so we have to put them in the box. However, as we expand our business operations, we intend to remove the chargers from the boxes and put them on store shelves so that anyone can buy them and continue to use them even when switching to a new smartphone. “Yes, this explanation raises more questions than answers, but the fact remains: from next year, some OPPO smartphones (and, quite possibly, OnePlus) will begin to ship with a stripped-down kit.
