Leaker Ice Universe, who is probably the only Samsung fan in China, has published the characteristics of the main camera of the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It will be based on a 200-megapixel sensor with 0.6 micron pixels and an optical size of 1/1.3″. Thus, the sensor size will remain approximately unchanged compared to the ISOCELL HM1 / HM3 used in Samsung flagships starting with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. If in 2020-2021 it was one of the largest sensors available on the market, then in the flagships of competitors in 2023 there will be more and more sensors around 1″ in size, such as the IMX989 (Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Sharp Aquos R7).
Named Ice Universe and camera aperture – f / 1.7. As you can see, there is only one number, which means there will be no variable aperture in the new Samsung product (although it was Samsung who was the first to implement this technology that is gaining popularity in Android smartphones). Thus, Samsung will clearly lag behind competitors in the technical equipment of the main camera of its flagship. However, in mobile photography, it increasingly depends not on hardware, but on software – and we will only be able to find out about its quality after the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
