The beginning of autumn is the time when the iPhone receives an operating system update. The new iOS 16 is now available to owners of iPhone 8 to iPhone 14. Apple says the operating system offers “all-new personalization features, deeper intelligence, and more convenient ways to communicate.” Here are ten exciting new features coming with the update:
Lock screen customization
Flexible lock screen customization includes a style gallery and the ability to add widgets for weather, sports scores, calendar and more. Users will be able to customize fonts, combine background images with time and date displays. Focus settings will allow you to switch which notifications are displayed when you choose between lock screens.
Editing text messages
iOS 16 allows you to edit outgoing messages for up to 15 minutes after sending – but a maximum of five edits is allowed. If you really didn’t mean what you said, you can completely unsend the message within 2 minutes. You can also mark a message as unread if you want to return to it later.
Fast forward audio messages
Repeated listening to long messages will become a thing of the past thanks to the ability to fast forward and rewind audio messages.
Invitation to cooperation
If you want to start a project, you can send a message to a group of employees – each recipient will be added to the document or spreadsheet you want to share. This feature will work with Apple Files, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders, and Safari, as well as third-party apps. Then, when someone makes changes to, say, a Pages document, the update will be posted at the top of the message thread.
Share Bookmarks
Another collaboration feature. It allows you to share a group of Safari bookmarks with your friends. Bookmarks can replenish any of the users. Updates will be shared immediately with everyone.
Siri hangs up
Is it difficult to end a conversation when your hands are full? Now you can simply ask Siri with the “Hey Siri, hang up” command. True, it will not be possible to do this imperceptibly – on the other side they will hear you.
Routes with multiple stops
Planning a trip with multiple stops along the way? Now you can add multiple destinations to your route and you’ll be guided from stop to stop.
Fitness and health
iOS 16 adds a Fitness app for all users who use their phone’s built-in motion sensors to calculate calories burned based on steps, distance traveled, or using third-party fitness apps. You can use it even if you don’t have an Apple Watch. And the new Medications feature in the Health app lets you track what you need to take and when.
Translation of text using the camera
Ideal for holidays in distant lands. The feature allows you to translate the text around you using the camera and the Translator app. Just point the camera at the text you want to translate, freeze the frame, and the translation will be superimposed on the text on the still image. You can zoom in for a closer read. In addition, translation of text on photos from the library is available.
Improved lock mode
Apple says the new Lockdown feature “provides exceptional protection for a very small number of users who face serious, targeted threats to their digital security.” The company says the feature “further strengthens your device’s security and severely restricts certain features, drastically reducing the attack surface that can potentially be exploited by highly targeted spyware for hire.”
