Google has begun rolling out a new feature that could make it much easier to rate apps in the Play Store. It will show you reviews based on the type of device you’re using, whether it’s a phone, tablet/foldable, Chromebook, Android Auto, or wearable. The feature was originally scheduled to launch in early 2022.
The reviews section of the Play Store now has a notification that the ratings are “verified” and the user is shown reviews from people using the same type of device. Although tablets and foldable devices are lumped into the same category.
“Ratings are based on recent reviews from people in your area using the same type of device as you. Reviews are provided by people with a verified Google account based on their experience with the apps they downloaded,” the Play Store notice reads.
This feature can be useful for users as Android apps are being extended to more and more form factors. And on different devices, applications can work differently.
It is also noted that the new feature sorts reviews based on the category of the user’s device, and not a specific model. Although you can manually set a filter in the reviews section to only see reviews left from the same device model that the user is using.
