McDonald’s begins a phased opening of restaurants to launch McDelivery – tomorrow, September 20, the first three restaurants in Kyiv will start working.
First, McDelivery will work in three restaurants in Kyiv – on Bazhana Avenue, 3v, on the street. Grishko, 7 and on Gagarin Avenue, 2a. The McDelivery service will be provided by longtime McDonald’s delivery partner Glovo. The next – in about a week – will resume work of seven more establishments in Kyiv, and then over the course of two months, the rest of the restaurants in the capital and in various cities in the west of the country will gradually start working.
In other cities, the launch of establishments will also begin with delivery, and then guests will be able to visit restaurants on their own. Lounges, express windows and MacDrive are scheduled to open in October.
To work in a war, McDonald’s is implementing expanded procedures and protocols for the safety of workers and customers – restaurants will work from 9:00 to 21:00 (or according to the mall’s work schedule if the institution is located inside) and will be closed during an air raid so that employees and visitors could move to the nearest shelter. At the same time, the team promptly issues already paid orders while stopping production processes and turning off equipment before closing.
The world’s largest chain of fast food establishments suspended work after February 24 for security reasons . In June, it became known that Ukrainian diplomats were urging McDonald’s to resume work in Ukraine, and subsequently the head of one of Kiev’s McDonald’s restaurants, on condition of anonymity, said that the opening of establishments could begin in August, subject to the coordination of all security issues. And so McDonald’s publicly announced the gradual resumption of the work of establishments in Ukraine and since then has been actively preparing to start working in conditions of war.

As noted in previous posts, McDonald’s occupies a special place in the lives of many Ukrainians – the first McDonald’s in Ukraine opened on May 24, 1997 and recently the chain celebrated its 25th anniversary in the country . Many over the years have developed some kind of rituals and traditions associated with McDonald’s.
It also remains to remember that earlier McDonald’s decided to completely leave Russia and sell the entire business after 32 years of operation – this decision, which commands special respect, was made due to the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
- There are more than 40,000 restaurants in the McDonald’s system, and 107 in Ukraine. In the second month of the war, McDonald’s reorganized the team in Ukraine into a large volunteer organization, which since then has not stopped working in several directions and helping other Ukrainians. At the same time, McDonald’s did not stop paying the salaries of more than 10,000 employees in Ukraine.
