The American Internet giant Amazon has canceled the referral commission for Ukrainian entrepreneurs selling to the EU and the UK. Special conditions for Ukrainian business came into force on September 6 and will be valid for at least a year – until September 7, 2023. This is reported by the Ministry of Digital and Ukrposhta.
A few months ago, the Ministry of Digital Development, Ukrposhta, Disqover Agency and Startup Ukraine called on Amazon to simplify the conditions for Ukrainian business, which, despite the war, continues to work and supports the country’s economy. In response, Amazon has eliminated the referral fee per year. From September 6, Ukrainian businesses that send goods from Ukraine to the EU and the UK do not pay any interest on the sale. Previously, the referral commission ranged from 7 to 17% of the price depending on the category; for the most part, its size reached 15%.
“In response to your request to support Ukrainian sellers on our marketplace, I am happy to confirm that we are now introducing special conditions for businesses with a shipping address to Ukraine. From September 6, we are reducing the referral commission to 0% for a period of 12 months for all Ukrainian sellers on Amazon in Europe and the UK.”
Xavier Flamand,
Vice President EU Seller Services.
Xavier Flamand also noted that Amazon Web Services was honored to receive the Ukraine Peace Prize from the Ukrainian government and continues to help Ukrainians through many initiatives to support our country.
At the end of June, Ukrposhta opened its store on Amazon, and the Ukrainian postal operator became a pioneer in this field. On August 31, Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smilyansky reported that since the opening of the online store on eBay and Amazon, sales of Ukrposhta stamps and merchandise on these sites have already amounted to UAH 5.3 million.
Previously, Joom, Wish, Shopify, Etsy and eBay have also eliminated commissions for sellers from Ukraine . We can only welcome this positive decision by Amazon and encourage other marketplaces to follow this example — Ukrainian businesses will have more favorable conditions for expansion to the global market and promotion of the Made in Ukraine brand as such.
