Cyberpunk 2077, which started off loud and not very well two years ago, is experiencing a second wave of popularity thanks to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series from Netflix. More than 85 thousand simultaneously playing on Steam – this, of course, is not half a million at the start, but still the best figure for the last year.
On its own, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series , released on September 13, has become one of Netflix’s most successful releases. Critics praised its story, world building, animation, it has the highest audience ratings. It has a 98% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 100% critic score. The successful show made many players return to Cyberpunk 2077 again, and then discovered the game for the first time.
A similar but much more massive return to the game occurred in 2019 with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . Released on Netflix, the fairly successful, albeit controversial, The Witcher series has attracted more people to the game than it did when it launched in 2015.
The recent Cyberpunk 2077 1.5 and 1.6 updates fixed many of the bugs and stability issues that plagued the game at launch. CD Projekt Red has also released official modding tools. and announced that Phantom Liberty, the game’s first and last major expansion, will be released in 2023.
Phantom Liberty will be Cyberpunk 2077’s first and last expansion – then CD Projekt RED will ditch its REDengine engine in favor of Unreal Engine 5
