The site with vacancies in the IT field No Fluff Jobs analyzed the changes that took place in this area in Ukraine and Poland in the first half of 2022 and shared the results of its expertise. The authors identified the main trends in these two markets, and also made graphs comparing both types of contracts separately in Ukraine and separately in Poland, and salaries based on the same contracts in these two countries.

At the same time, the number of vacancies for beginners has increased in Poland. In the first half of 2021, there were 6.7% of such vacancies, and in the first half of 2022, their number increased by almost 2.5 times and amounted to 15.03% of all vacancies. Compared to Poland, in Ukraine the situation with vacancies for beginners is worse, most companies have suspended hiring specialists with minimal experience.
Salaries of programmers – in Ukraine and Poland
The median of the lower and upper salary levels in Ukraine for Frontend specialists working under an employment contract ranges from PLN 13,900 to PLN 20,800 gross, in Poland – from PLN 11,500 to PLN 17,000 gross. The median in the case of work under a B2B contract (similar to the Ukrainian sole proprietorship) is from PLN 16,000 to PLN 22,400 net in Ukraine and from PLN 15,000 to PLN 21,800 net + VAT in Poland.

Companies hiring in Poland are ready to pay more backend specialists – such specialists are offered from PLN 12,000 to 18,000 gross under an employment contract and from PLN 16,000 to 23,000 net + VAT under a B2B contract. In Ukraine – from PLN 10,600 to PLN 18,500 gross under an employment contract and from PLN 13,800 to PLN 20,500 net under a B2B contract.
Fullstack specialists in Ukraine earn from PLN 10,600 to PLN 18,500 gross under an employment contract, and from PLN 11,000 to PLN 17,000 gross in Poland. At the same time, under a B2B contract, such specialists receive from PLN 16,100 to PLN 22,400 net in Ukraine and from PLN 15,000 to PLN 21,500 net + VAT in Poland.
Different levels of salaries in the case of work under a B2B contract are related to the nuances of taxation. In Poland, private entrepreneurs pay 23% VAT, which is also covered by the employer. In Ukraine, most IT specialists are employed as FOPs (the third group) and do not have to pay VAT. Therefore, the total cost of hiring a programmer from Ukraine under a B2B contract, even with higher salaries, is still lower than in Poland.
Remote work vacancies
Increasingly, there are vacancies that provide for fully remote work. In 2021, such a model was offered in 52.6% of ads, and this year it is already in 71.8%. No Fluff Jobs research shows that 96% of IT professionals want to work remotely or at least in a hybrid model.
