In a keynote at the Intel Innovation event, CEO Pat Gelsinger revealed the recommended price for the Intel Arc A770 graphics card at $329, which is in line with NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 launch price and well below the top-end next-gen RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 . There are no real tests of the new video card yet, but the manufacturer is talking about competition with the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 .
The positioning is indirectly confirmed by the characteristics of the Arc A770 video card : 4096 shader units, up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and a chip operating frequency of 2100 MHz. Intel representatives talk about good results in DirectX 12 games and high-performance ray tracing.
Introducing Arc graphics cards, Gelsinger showed a chart that displayed the cost of NVIDIA graphics adapters from the GTX 650 Ti to the RTX 2060 – this period of development of the competitor’s line did not differ significantly in price with each new generation. Commenting on the situation with the general rise in price of the RTX 3000 and RTX 4000 against the backdrop of his own release, he noted the dissatisfaction of the gaming community with the high prices of video cards in recent years.
“We hear gamers complaining about high prices,” Gelsinger said to a competitor. “You must be upset because you are missing out on the gaming community. And today we will fix it.” Also, the head of Intel noted that “Moore’s law is alive and well,” and added: “we will continue to comply with Moore’s law.”
The mention of Moore’s law was a response to Jensen Huang, the head of NVIDIA, who justified the high prices of video cards by the increased cost of manufacturing powerful graphics processors and the actual death of the law of growth in the number of transistors on a chip in relation to price. One way or another, competition always leads to more attractive pricing for the consumer, and Intel contributes to this as a new player in the market.
