In 2022, subscription services are on the rise, offering everything from Netflix to Telegram. YouTube, the world’s main video hosting, also has one. Today, YouTube Premium offers the ability to watch ad-free content, play videos in the background, and cache them for offline viewing. Many can do without it, but soon the composition of the subscription may be replenished with a function that is common today. A screenshot appeared on the Reddit forum, allegedly obtained from a beta version of the application, which is being tested. Here we see that the resolution of 2160p (4K) is the prerogative of YouTube Premium.

For smartphone owners, this “innovation” is unlikely to be of great importance, but those who watch YouTube on 4K TVs will clearly be unhappy. This is especially true for users from Russia, where YouTube Premium is completely absent due to Google’s policy. There has been no official announcement of such plans yet, so there is hope that this is just a misunderstanding.
