One of the interesting features of the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 is the Apple Crash Detection feature, which can detect if the owner has been in an accident and automatically call rescuers. On the night of October 2, a 911 hotline in Lincoln, Nebraska received an alarm generated by a newly introduced feature. Arriving at the scene of the accident, rescuers found a car that had flown into a tree, five of the six passengers of which had already died from their injuries. The surviving 24-year-old girl was taken to the hospital, but it was not possible to save her. And although this story has been dubbed “the worst crash in Lincoln in recent memory”, in a slightly different situation, the Apple Crash Detection function could well have saved one, and maybe more lives.
