According to Google estimates, about 250 million smartphones on the planet run Android Go, a lightweight version of the OS designed for low-cost devices with modest memory configurations. Now the search giant has unveiled Android 13 Go, which replaced Android 11 Go (yes, the Go version of Android 12 never appeared). And this time, Google decided to significantly raise the bar for system requirements: if earlier Go-versions were suitable for smartphones “with less than 2 GB of RAM”, now the phrase sounds like “at least 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.”
One of the main innovations of Android 13 Go was the introduction of the Material You design language, which allows you to adapt the color scheme of the OS based on the installed wallpaper. There are also some functional features from Android 13, such as giving permission to applications to send notifications, the ability to change the language for a particular application, but, alas, new animations from Android 13 did not appear.
Another important feature of Android 13 Go is the optimized Google Play System Updates, a system that will allow weak devices to easily receive and install important critical software updates in addition to the main version of Android without much pressure on free storage space. The first smartphones with Android 13 Go will start coming out of the box in 2023.
