YouTube will create tabs for regular, short and streaming videos inside the “Videos” section of channels. The change will affect applications and the web interface of the service. In its announcement , the company justifies the change with user feedback. YouTube believes that the innovation will make it easier for viewers to find content that is more interesting to them.
Channels currently have a single Video tab that displays all videos regardless of format. Existing content filters are reset as soon as the visitor leaves the channel page.
This approach can make things a little more difficult for users who want to watch everything the channel releases in one place. For others, the convenience is obvious – many content creators create short clips from their regular videos and upload them as shorts. Certain inconveniences are caused by setting up the page every time. This also works in reverse – the user can select all the “short films” to watch.
This is good news for Youtube and content creators – the company recently announced that from next year, creators in its partner program will receive a portion of the revenue from ads that play before short videos. This could give the platform an edge over TikTok, which currently pays creators through a special fund and allows them to earn from tips.
The change to give each content type its own tab began rolling out on Thursday and will be rolled out to most users in the coming weeks. In Ukraine, YouTube at the moment still looks like it used to.
