During stabilization measures, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a collaborator in Kherson who was “beating out votes” for the region’s accession to the Russian Federation.

The detainee was a representative of the “election commission”, which the Russian occupiers formed during the capture of the regional center of the Kherson region, the SBU reports.

It is noted that this pseudo-installation fulfilled the Kremlin’s task of organizing and holding an illegal referendum on the alleged accession of the temporarily occupied region to the Russian Federation.

“The detained SBU collaborator was collecting “votes” for a fake plebiscite. To do this, he went around high-rise apartments in one of the city’s micro-districts and called on people to “vote” for the Kremlin project. In case of disagreement, the attacker threatened citizens with physical violence and called for “help” from armed occupiers, who were “in line” at the entrance,” the department said.

The collaborator handed over the “ballots” drawn up under the muzzles of machine guns to the local occupation administration in order to further falsify the results of the fake “elections”.

According to the investigation, the detainee turned out to be a local resident who, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, supported the invaders and cooperated with them. For this, he was appointed to a “position” with monetary content at the expense of the aggressor.

SBU investigators informed him of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 and Part 5 of Art. 111-1 (collaborative activity, participation in the organization and holding of illegal elections and/or referendums in the temporarily occupied territory, committed by conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the collaborator.

We will remind, earlier during the stabilization measures in the liberated Kherson, SBU employees found classified documents of the FSB of Russia, which contained information about collaborating agents. Among the seized: agents’ handwritten “commitments” about confidential cooperation with the FSB; agency study relations; notification of agents about the results of enemy missions; “protocols” of searches in the houses of Kherson residents.

The liberation of Kherson from the Russian invaders

Russia captured a large part of the Kherson region, along with the regional center, at the beginning of a full-scale invasion. At the end of the summer, the Ukrainian military launched a counteroffensive in the southern direction and systematically liberated the populated areas of the region on the right bank of the Dnieper.

Already on November 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that their occupying forces were leaving Kherson and the right bank of the region.

Ukrainian military entered Kherson on November 11. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called this day historic because Ukraine is returning Kherson. Already on November 14, Zelensky visited Kherson and met with the Ukrainian military, who were liberating the city. Also, the Ukrainian flag officially flew over Kherson.

Meanwhile, the Kherson Regional Council reported that on the left bank of the region, Russian occupiers continue to loot and take private and state property to Russia with trucks. The mood of the occupiers on the left bank of the Kherson region is not just panicky, they already see that they have lost this war, noted the deputy head of the regional council Yuriy Sobolevskyi.
