The permanent representative of the US to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that the targeted missile attacks by the Russian Federation from Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities are a shameful escalation of the war.

As she noted during the meeting of the UN Security Council, such a strategy of Russia is “inhumane”.

“Let’s be honest, these are attacks against critical infrastructure, and they are a shameful escalation in Russia’s brutal and unjustified war,” the US media said.

According to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to turn the winter cold into a weapon to bring great suffering to the Ukrainian people. She noted that the Kremlin resorted to such tactics because of major defeats on the battlefield.

The representative of the United States emphasized that Russian attacks on peaceful infrastructure are so large-scale that they have led to blackouts outside of Ukraine. In addition, they created serious risks at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities. Because of this, she appealed to the UN to “resolutely and unconditionally” condemn the actions of the Russian occupiers. The US ambassador also emphasized the need to create a mechanism to hold the Russian Federation accountable for such actions.

“We have to do everything possible to support the people of Ukraine,” she summed up.

Missile attack on Ukraine: meeting of the UN Security Council

On November 23, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, called an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council due to another mass attack by Russia on the territory of Ukraine.

During his speech at the meeting, he noted that Ukraine proposes to the Security Council to adopt a resolution condemning any form of energy terror.

Later, the president emphasized that one seat in the UN Security Council is still occupied.
