The leader of the Kalush Orchestra, Oleh Psyuk, is currently touring America with the band. In an interview with the YouTube channel “Olytska”, he said that even before 2014, he was asked to rap in Russian, but he refused.
“My friends said: ‘If you’re already doing some kind of rap, then do it at least in Russian, like everyone else does.’ This really annoyed me. I had a goal: to show that it’s all possible,” said Oleg Psyuk. .
He is very glad that now there is an opportunity to bring Ukrainian culture to the whole world. Oleg added that many of those who advised him to create in Russian have already “changed their shoes” today.
The frontman of the Kalush Orchestra admitted that he likes to be creative and see the appreciation of the audience, but he does not want to compete with anyone.
“We don’t have a goal to be better than someone else. We have a goal – to do cool things, so that when a foreigner hears Ukrainian music, he says: ‘Wow, Ukraine is wonderful,'” Oleg Psyuk summarized.
