In the tenth month of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Gazprom abandoned plans to stop supplying gas to Moldova via Ukraine.
Such a statement was made by Gazprom, noting that “Moldovagaz” eliminated violations regarding payment to Gazprom for current deliveries of Russian gas in November.
“It was decided not to reduce the supply of gas to the Suja GIS for transit to Moldova. Gazprom has received the funds for the gas that settled on the territory of Ukraine, intended for Moldovan consumers,” the Russian company said.
The war in Ukraine and the gas situation in Moldova:
Earlier, Gazprom announced its intention to stop supplying gas to Moldova via Ukraine from November 28.
On October 1, Gazprom cut gas supplies to Moldova by 30%. At that time, Vice Prime Minister Andriy Spinu said that supplies were being reduced due to technical problems, and Chisinau would ask for an increase in supplies.
In addition, he reported that Moldova has about 53.5 million cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities in Ukraine and Romania.
On November 3, Moldova imported gas for the first time under the reverse scheme. Energocom bought 5.6 million cubic meters of gas, importing it through the connection point “Budnica” in Slovakia.
On November 22, “Gazprom” announced that it was allegedly recording a decrease in gas supplied to consumers in Moldova and threatened to reduce the volume of gas supplies to Chisinau.
In turn, “Operator of GTS of Ukraine” denied accusations of theft of gas destined for Moldova. The company assured that the volumes entering from “Suzhi” are transferred at the points of exit from Ukraine to Moldova “Oleksiivka” and “Grebenyki” in full.
