Rinkevichs stressed that NATO countries should not be afraid of escalation.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, is convinced that Ukraine should have the right to strike from military targets, in particular, airfields on the territory of the Russian Federation after a massive missile attack on Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
As Bloomberg reports, Rinkevichs emphasized that NATO countries “should not be afraid” of escalation.
“We should allow Ukrainians to use weapons to attack missile facilities or airfields from which these operations are carried out (missile strikes on infrastructure – ed.),” the politician said.
According to the Latvian minister, a number of other NATO member states also believe that Ukraine should not have any restrictions at all on how it uses weapons in the war with Russia.
The war in Ukraine: the role of Latvia
In October 2022, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevičs emphasized that Russia has the resources to wage a long war against Ukraine, and therefore the West should not “relax” in providing aid.
In addition, Latvian Seimas deputy Oleksandr Kirsteins distinguished himself with a sharp statement about the history of the Russian Federation and ran into hysterics of propagandists. He declared that the Russian nation does not exist, as well as the language of the occupying country. He believes that the Russian language is a dialect formed by the Mongol-Tatars.
Earlier it was reported that Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland closed entry for Russians. On the night of September 18-19, these countries stopped letting in citizens of the Russian Federation with Schengen tourist visas, because they believe that their trips are a threat to the public safety of the entire Schengen zone.
