He noted that this decision would become historic.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, called on Germany to transfer the Patriot anti-missile defense system to Ukraine.
The head of state reminded that the German Bundestag voted for the resolution recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
“This is a decision for justice, for the truth. And this is a very important signal for many other countries of the world that Russian revanchism will not succeed in rewriting history,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that “another decision by Germany, which will certainly become historic, is to transfer the Patriot system to Ukraine, and all generations of Ukrainians will be grateful to Chancellor Scholz, as well as to the entire generation of modern German politicians.”
Patriot air defense system for Ukraine: what is known
After Ukrainian air defense missiles allegedly fell in Poland on November 15, German Defense Minister Kristina Lambrecht said that Germany had offered to transfer the Patriot missile defense system to Poland to help it protect its airspace.
In response, NATO said that Germany can make such a decision without additional consultations, without waiting for the alliance’s response.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi previously appealed to the United States of America to provide Ukraine with Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, Abrams tanks and aircraft.
