In the tenth month of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, inspections of internally displaced persons have begun, as a result of which people may be deprived of benefits.

As the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, Oksana Zholnovych, stated in an interview with “Suspilnya”, a person who has returned home to his permanent place of residence ceases to be an immigrant and loses the right to receive benefits for IDPs.

Zholnovich noted that many people do not deregister after returning home, although the government can offer such citizens other financial support programs.

“If a person has returned, he was internally displaced and he does not have a job… we have programs: low-income, many children, the same subsidy. We can help him simply by solving his specific problem, which he has at the place of permanent residence.” , she said.

Zholnovich noted that citizens registered as IDPs will receive a message asking them to appear at the Social Security Administration and confirm their stay. In case of non-appearance within 10 days, payments will be stopped. If the absence was due to a valid reason, it will be necessary to write a statement, provide supporting documents, and payments will be resumed.

The war in Ukraine and payments to displaced persons:

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, 4.8 million internally displaced persons were registered in Ukraine as of November 4.

The government pays 2,000 hryvnias per month to displaced persons who left the places of active hostilities, and 3,000 hryvnias is paid to children and persons with disabilities.

Since October 1, displaced persons have been able to receive social services at their place of stay. The amount of compensation for the shelter of an immigrant was also doubled – from UAH 450 to UAH 900 per person.

On November 8, 2022, Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, announced that internally displaced persons (IDPs) have already received more than 42 billion hryvnias as state aid.
