On Thursday, December 8, at 01:44, the Rescue Service received information about a fire in the village of Majory of the Odesa region, the press service of the Main Department of Emergency Services in the Odesa region reported.
After arriving at the scene of the call, the rescuers found that property in the apartment building was on fire.
“During the extinguishing of the fire, three dead people were found: men, born in 1995 and 1967, and a woman, born in 1982,” the report says.
At approximately 02:00, the fire was extinguished on an area of 50 square meters. m. The probable cause of the fire is a short circuit in the electrical network in a residential building.
Two units of fire equipment and nine rescuers were involved in extinguishing the fire.
In addition, 11 people, including 7 children, were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning in Odesa region during the day, Maryna Martynenko, the press secretary of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region, informed about this at the briefing.
“Just in the last day, there were 5 cases where people were poisoned by carbon monoxide. These are 11 people, 7 of them are children. The oldest is 15 years old, the youngest is 3 years old… One of these cases happened in Odesa, where a family used at home with a wood-burning fireplace,” she said.
Also, a boy born in 2014 was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Odesa Children’s Hospital in a moderate condition with carbon monoxide poisoning. The previous cause of poisoning was a violation of fire safety rules during the operation of the gas column (depressurization of the equipment).
It is noted that all 11 people were hospitalized in a moderate condition.
As Martynenko added, the number of fires in the region has increased significantly due to the problem with the electricity supply (surges in power grids, etc.). In particular, over the past five weeks, the number of fires has increased by 40% compared to the same period last year.
“This is 111 – fires… The most frequent cause is a short circuit. This is a colossal number,” the press secretary emphasized.
She added that in no case should you turn on everything possible when the lights come back on. Nowadays, boilers, refrigerators, and TVs fail. For example, during the day, there were 7 short circuits in the switchboards, which did not end in fires.
