Fighting around Bakhmut between the Defense Forces of Ukraine and Russian troops has been going on since August.
Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military expert of the “Information Resistance” group, explained why the Russian troops have been trying so long and desperately to capture Bakhmut.
Initially, the capture of Bakhmut was presented exclusively as an element of propaganda, as if the occupiers were “liberating” the so-called “DPR” within its historical borders, the expert said on the air of the information telethon.
“Now it’s a completely different situation. If we look at the map of events, then Bakhmut, Avdiyivka and Vugledar create a buffer of control by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, thanks to which fire is carried out deep into the rear of the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk region. And now the Russian occupiers are facing a rather serious issue of providing of his southern group of troops,” Kovalenko noted.
According to him, logistics exclusively through the Crimean Bridge is imperfect and ineffective.
“Therefore, they are looking for other ways, and one of them is the restoration of a full supply of logistical support from the east to the south. And it is impossible to do this while this logistical artery is under the full control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, it is important for them to occupy Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Ugledar to create a security buffer for the future of its logistics artery,” he explained.
