Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to threaten the use of nuclear weapons.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that Moscow is “expanding and modernizing” its nuclear weapons.
His comments came as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to threaten the world with nuclear weapons, Sky News reports.
“Russia is also modernizing and expanding its nuclear arsenal. And while the Kremlin continues its brutal and unprovoked war against Ukraine, the whole world has witnessed Putin engage in wildly irresponsible nuclear-arms-rattling,” Austin said.
Threats to the Russian Federation with nuclear weapons
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Russia has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons. It recently became known that as early as the spring of 2022, Russian officials discussed the possible use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
Recently, on December 7, Putin stated that “the threat of nuclear war is growing.” At the same time, he also clarified that Russia will not be the first to use nuclear weapons.
However, already on December 9, Putin suggested that Russia may consider officially including in its military doctrine the task of a first preventive nuclear strike with the aim of disarming the enemy.
