Volkswagen Group has shared information about the development of its future MEB+ platform for electric vehicles. At first it was thought that MEB+ would be an update of the current platform, but it is actually a new platform for a new generation of electric vehicles.
The next-generation platform provides for a wider use of self-management capabilities. New battery technology is also mentioned. According to the initial idea, charging and energy storage technologies, as well as digital infrastructure, will be improved. It is noted that MEB+ will increase the range of electric vehicles to 700 km (from the current about 500 km), and will also significantly reduce charging time, and charging power of 175-200 kW is possible in the future.
The MEB+ platform will be the basis for 10 new electric vehicles that are due to appear by 2026. Among them, a model worth about 25,000 euros will be available. Volkswagen Group also plans to release new electric vehicles in the performance and premium segments. Audi models on MEB+ should probably be expected.
Volkswagen Group has not yet specified when to expect the release of the first electric car based on the MEB+ platform.
