Apple users will be able to purchase a blue tick for $11 per month, for others, a subscription will cost $8. Only people who provide a phone number can receive account verification. Additional features promised in Twitter Blue (prioritized placement in answers and searches, as well as fewer ads) “will appear soon”, the social network promises.
Twitter is reviving Blue subscriptions today, a month after abandoning its first attempt, which caused chaos on the social network and the emergence of a number of fake accounts with blue ticks.
Verification on Twitter is out of control: fake accounts of “Trump”, “Nintendo” and “Jesus Christ” received a blue tick
As previously reported, the subscription will cost $8 per month. To purchase a subscription through the iOS App Store (to offset the 30% commission Apple takes from in-app purchases) will cost just over $11 per month.

This time, anyone who pays for Blue and plans to get a “verified” mark on their profile must first register a phone number, and changing their “name or profile picture” will remove the mark — until the account is reviewed by Twitter’s responsible teams.
In a Twitter thread, the company says that subscribers will get access to a blue profile badge along with a range of features, including the ability to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos and access to reading mode. Twitter also says it’s changing the “official” tag it’s been tinkering with lately. Businesses will receive a “gold tick” and government accounts will receive a “gray” later this week.
Esther Crawford, a product manager at Twitter, says the company will require verification of a phone number before providing a paid “blue” tick to “combat impersonations.”
On Monday we are bringing back the ability to subscribe to @TwitterBlue — it’ll be $8/mo on the web and $11/mo on iOS. We’ve come to list the step of using the blue checkmark to count as one of our new steps to combat impersonation (which is in the Twitter Rules).

Previously, Musk announced several more innovations — the company is currently working on a software update that will make it clear whether there are restrictions in the form of a shadow ban on a user account. Additionally, Elon wrote that Twitter will soon begin freeing up the name space for 1.5 billion accounts. This may affect accounts that have been inactive for several years – did not post tweets or log in to the platform.
