IMDb named the best movies and TV shows of 2022: Batman and Stranger Things lead the way

The IMDb site presented annual ratings of the most popular movies and series. Among the full-length films, “Batman” with Robert Pattinson, the sequel to “Doctor Strange” and another Marvel superhero film “Thor: Love and Thunder” are leading. The sci-fi series Stranger Things, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and another Netflix production, the drama Better Call Saul, lead the respective ratings of TV series.

IMDb determines annual ratings of popular movies and series based on actual page views by more than 200 million site visitors, rather than relying on small statistical samples or reviews by professional critics. The data comes from IMDbPro’s movie and TV ratings, which are updated weekly throughout the year.

“Stranger Things” / Stranger Things – one of the main series of modern times, which Netflix has been releasing since 2016, ended up in the first well-deserved place. The show, inspired by the works of Stephen King, is appreciated for its atmosphere, acting and references to genre films of the 1980s.

The new (fourth in a row) season, which was released in 2022, broke records on the service: in the first 28 days, viewers spent more than one billion hours watching Stranger Things 4 (to be more precise, 1.15 billion hours of viewing). “Stranger Things” has already been renewed for a fifth season, which will complete the current storyline.

Earlier, IMDb named the top 10 movie stars of 2022 – the first place in the rating is occupied by Anna de Armas for the second year in a row. The Cuban actress has secured her lead with roles in two popular Netflix hits, The Blonde and The Gray Man, as well as Hulu’s Deep Water.

The popular rating aggregator Metacritic has also compiled its own lists of the best movies and TV shows of 2022. So far, the film rating is headed by “Aftersun” – the feature debut of the Scottish director and screenwriter Charlotte Wells. As for series, the first place is held by “Better Call Saul”, which ended in 2022 with its sixth season.
