Verification “broke” on Twitter – users from Ukraine cannot add a phone number

Verification

When setting up two-step authentication on Twitter, the social network does not allow you to add a phone number with the Ukrainian code +380.

The attempt to add a phone number to Twitter ends at the stage of selecting the country code — Ukraine is not in the list, and the social network does not allow entering the code manually.

Users blame the problems of the new CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, who has repeatedly caused “breakdowns” in the social network with his updates. Thus, due to the launch of the Twitter Blue subscription, which provides everyone with a “blue check” for $8 per month, the social network was attacked by “verified” bots and trolls.

However, some write that there have been problems with confirming the phone number before. In particular, when changing the password or blocking accounts, they could only be restored using mail.

As of the morning of December 13, the problem has not been resolved.

Twitter verification

Verification is not available via the browser or the iOS mobile app.

Ukrainians also do not have the opportunity to set up two-factor authentication through a phone number. When I tried to enable the feature in the mobile app, Twitter prompted me to add an email address.

Through the browser, Twitter led me to a window where I had to enter a number, but again, the Ukrainian code “+380” was not among those offered.

Previously, Musk has already caused the anger of the Ukrainian community on Twitter — in particular, when he decided to offer his own solution to end the war in Ukraine. The billionaire offered to give Crimea to Russia, give Ukraine neutral status and hold referendums in the occupied territories under the supervision of the UN.

Elon Musk organized a poll on Twitter about “peace between Ukraine and Russia” – he, among other things, offered to give Crimea to the occupiers
