From January, a program to replace inefficient incandescent lamps with LED lamps will start operating in Ukraine.
Every adult citizen of Ukraine will be able to get up to 5 LED lamps for free instead of old incandescent lamps. In this way, you can make your contribution to helping energy companies balance the energy system of Ukraine. This was stated by the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliya Svyridenko on the live broadcast of the National Telethon.
“Now, in order to reduce the load on the energy infrastructure, we have to implement various, including non-traditional, energy efficiency measures. Simply replacing old light bulbs with new LED bulbs can save the country up to 1.5 gigawatts of electricity during peak hours. This is a very significant saving. For comparison: replacing 50 million LED bulbs will relieve the work of an entire reactor of a nuclear power plant,” said Yuliya Svyridenko.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, replacement of lamps will be carried out through the company “Ukrposhta”. It is planned that the replacement mechanism will be simplified as much as possible. Interested Ukrainians need only submit an application in advance, come to the Ukrposhta branch and exchange 5 old-style lamps for 5 new LED lamps. Yuliya Svyridenko added that the program will operate long enough for everyone to use it, but did not specify specific terms.
The program to replace 30 million lamps will be financed by the European Union. Currently, the Ukrainian government is working to ensure that all EU procedures are completed by the end of the year, and the program was launched in January.
