The head of “Energoatom” Petro Kotin believes that the Director General of the IAEA has not yet come close to reaching an agreement on the creation of a safety zone around the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has not yet come close to reaching an agreement on the creation of a safety zone around the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
As the president of “Energoatom” Petro Kotin stated on the air of the informational telethon, Grossi continues to conduct separate negotiations with the Ukrainian and Russian parties.
“He (Grosi – ) has another round of negotiations today. As far as we know, he has not yet reached this safety zone in the negotiations. But he continues. Unfortunately, he does not have many mechanisms for this if one of the parties refuses to do so.” , – said Kotin.
The head of “Energoatom” also believes that the Russians will technically not be able to connect the Zaporizhzhya NPP to Crimea for the time being, since the plant is very powerful and must be provided with powerful power transmission lines, but they are “weak” in the south.
“It is technically impossible to talk about the fact that they would be able to switch the station to the weak lines that remained in the south of Ukraine. They can restore the capacity of these lines in a limited capacity, a few megawatts. But, of course, there is no sense in this.” , – Kotin explained.
The situation at the ZNPP:
Since March 2022, the ZNPP has been occupied by the Russian Federation.
In September, experts from the IAEA mission arrived at the station. Its director general, Rafael Grossi, proposed to the UN Security Council to create a security and protection zone there.
In October, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, issued a “decree” on the assignment of the Zaporizhia NPP.
On November 23, due to another attack by Russia from the energy system of Ukraine, Zaporizhzhya NPP went into full blackout mode.
On November 27, the president of “Energoatom” Petro Kotin said that the invading troops may be preparing to leave the territory of the ZNPP, but Russia denied this information, saying that the occupying troops have no intention of leaving the territory of the plant.
On November 30, 2022, Russia appointed a new “director” of the occupied ZNPP.
In early December, IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi said that he hopes to find a solution to the creation of a safety zone at the Zaporizhia NPP by the end of the year.
