According to the spokesman, recently there has been an escalation of the situation, which both Belarus and Russia are resorting to.
The situation on the border with Belarus is now under control. Ukrainian defenders do not record the movement of equipment or troops to the other side.
Andriy Demchenko, the spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine, said this on the air of the telethon. According to him, Belarus strengthened its border allegedly because of a threat from Ukraine.
At the same time, those units that were sent to Belarus to strengthen the border remain. Their number and nature of actions do not change.
“Ukraine’s attention is focused on actions deep in the territory of Belarus. Joint exercises of units of Belarus and Russia are taking place there. Recently, the Republic of Belarus carried out a sudden check of the combat capability of its units. Well, actually, their so-called deployment of the troops of the “Union State”, – said Demchenko.
He noted that recently there has been an escalation of the situation, which both Belarus and Russia are resorting to. According to the DPSU representative, in this way these countries are trying to demonstrate that they are preparing for something. This is necessary in order to detain a certain number of Ukrainian military personnel.
“So that we don’t move them to more important areas where the fighting is going on. Ukraine, of course, has never ruled out the possibility that troops may leave Belarus again, be it Russia, and the Russians themselves are putting pressure on Belarus to join the open war against Ukraine,” Demchenko explained.
He emphasized that Belarus is essentially already a participant in this war, as it provides its territory and airspace to the Russians for aggression. The speaker noted that Ukraine should be ready. The DPSU understands all the threats, but so far there is no strike group that would be ready to carry out an invasion.
The war in Ukraine: the role of Belarus
On December 17, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Belarus is not ready to fully participate in a ground operation against Ukraine.
Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vadym Denysenko, emphasized that the Belarusian army cannot play a decisive role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not rule out that Belarus is preparing to participate in the war against Ukraine.
