Christians celebrate a church holiday on December 25 in honor of the miracle worker Spyridon of Trimifuntsky, who is considered a law enforcement officer, deputy of beggars and the accused.
Catholic Christmas is celebrated on December 25. Although this name of the holiday is not entirely correct, because Orthodox believers also celebrate Christmas on December 25, but according to the old calendar. On Spyridon’s day, the peasants did not work, only discussed plans for the next year. From home work today, you can only collect firewood and feed livestock. So that hens lay many eggs, buckwheat is added to their feed on this day.
Ukrainians who celebrated Christmas on this day attended the Christmas service today. Before the holiday, the house was cleaned and white tablecloths were laid on the table, and a sheaf of hay was placed – grandfather. Delicious and rich dishes were put on the table, the main one of which was kutya. On December 25, children and teenagers went from house to house and sang carols.

- It is forbidden to sew, knit and embroider today.
- You can’t hunt today, otherwise disaster will happen to the hunter.
- On December 25, you cannot be stingy and deny help to loved ones.
