Secretary General António Guterres is ready to mediate for Ukraine and Russia, but this requires the consent of all parties.
The Kremlin is not going to agree to peace talks on Ukraine’s terms. Kyiv intends to submit its plan to end the war at the UN peace summit.
As the press secretary of the Russian dictator Dmytro Peskov said in a comment to propagandists from “RIA Novosti”, Russia will focus only on its own conditions.
“Russia has never followed other people’s conditions. They focused only on their own. And on common sense,” Peskov said in response to a question about whether Moscow is ready to negotiate on Ukraine’s terms.
In turn, UN Speaker Florencia Soto Nino-Martinez gave a very cautious answer, noting that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is ready to mediate for Ukraine and Russia, but this requires the consent of all parties, writes ABC News.
“As the Secretary General has repeatedly stated in the past, he can only mediate if all parties want him to mediate,” Nino-Martinez said.
The formula of the world for Ukraine – what is known
As reported, in November at the G20 summit, Zelenskyi presented the Ukrainian formula for achieving peace and called on foreign leaders to help Ukraine implement it. It consists of 10 points, which are clearly elaborated.
According to the President of Ukraine, the world received the formula announced by him extremely positively. At the same time, the Kremlin responded to it with escalation. According to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Russian authorities are not interested in holding peace talks to end the war.
On December 26, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said that the Ukrainian government plans to hold an international summit by the end of February 2023 to discuss the “peace formula” and end the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. According to him, the United Nations would be the best venue for this summit. Kuleba also noted that Ukraine would welcome the participation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
