Several villages worth visiting were located in Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, China, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Morocco.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) named 32 villages around the world out of 136 contestants worth visiting – 14 of them are located in Europe.
According to the organization’s report, the villages included in the list are located in 18 countries on five continents. At the same time, several villages that deserve attention were located in Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, China, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Morocco.
As noted by the compilers of the rating, the winners were chosen among rural areas that use tourism as a driving force for development and new opportunities for work and income, while maintaining their identity and promoting values and products produced in the community. The initiative also emphasizes the commitment of villages to innovation and sustainability in all its aspects – economic, social and environmental.

Another 20 villages will be included in the modernization program. Their list includes, among others, rural areas in Cyprus, Portugal, Turkey, Colombia, Poland, Paraguay, Israel, India and a number of other countries.
All 52 villages will also become part of the UNWTO Global Network of Best Tourism Villages, established in 2021, which as of that date unites 115 villages from five continents. The network provides a number of benefits, including on-site and online learning, sharing of best practices, and international recognition and brand recognition.
